Who are we?

West Most Astonishes was a blog idea created back in 2008 where I intended to document my life after college. At the time most of my goals involved driving west, living a simple minimalist lifestyle. I managed to take at few cross country trips in my old 4runner “Tippy” but they were always temporary and rushed. I quickly learned that most of the things I wanted to do with my life were going to cost money. I unfortunately abandoned my goals and entered the work-force.

I was re-introduced to fly fishing in 2010 at a $10 Trout Unlimited class put on by the local chapter here. The class came with a 1 year membership, and several lessons on knot tying, casting, and general fishing basics. I was hooked, literally.

I purchased my first fly rod combination at Dicks for around $70.00, along with a series of Amazon purchases of cheap equipment, relatively speaking. Neoprene off brand waders, Redington’s entry vest, and a bunch of inexpensive flies, and a basic tool set. The experiences surrounding the financial cost of fly fishing, the difficulty in knowing where to go, and the joy that it brings me have led to the resurrection of West Most Astonishes.

The Concept

I want this site to be a place where people come to share their experiences, find a place to fish, find access to name-brand equipment, and purchase tested products from West Most Astonishes (Including swag!)
